May 06-Reeks Walk
We gathered at the school an hour earlier as it was going to be a long day. As per usual this year those poor second years were excluded.
We were warned that we were not stopping for breakfast but we stopped anyway (Who can resist 30 screaming teenagers).
We set off up through the gap of dunloe crossing the ridge between Strickeen and Cnoc an Bhraca. We headed up cnoc an Bhraca and headed for Cruach mhor.Everything so far was until we got up Cruach mhor when we found ourselves surrounded by mist and drizzle.
It was wet and miserable and it was going to be a long long day. Timmy McCarthy was leading us sorry bunch for the day and quickly we came to realise he was moving at some pace. We tried to plan a mutiny and overthrow him, we then thought maybe if we put Kevin Forde up the front with his bad leg we might get to slow down.
We followed the ridge around the next peak(the big gun or something like that) which led us up Cnoc na Peiste,Here we chilled for lunch in wind begging all who would listen to mutiny and get down off this mountain.
After lunch it was off up Maolan Bui followed by Cnoc an Chuillin and finally Cnoc na Toinne. We decided against the devils ladder and headed down the ramp towards that mountain hut. Here we posed for photos and headed down Coomeenuachter route to the Hags Glen and walked out past Lisleibane to meet the bus at Gearha.
It was a good way to finish the year even though some sun would have been nice. On the way back to Cork we had one of the years best sing songs with everyone going all out. It was a great year in the hills for us and hopefully next year will be the same.
